R. A. Hawkins article about the Pelican
People was interesting to say the least. But when it comes to the mouth in proportion to ones brain and butt... well that
is a description that describes the Neo Conservative movement more than anyone. Hawkins has revealed that he is a “
Pelican” for the simple fact that his article has construed so much information I don’t know where to begin. But
here I go.
First of all Saddam Hussein represented no threat to us whatsoever. And just where are all the chemical and
biological weapons that we were supposed to have found Mr. Hawkins? I’m not saying they couldn’t be there but
we haven’t found them yet. To the Republicans credit we do know that he did have chemical weapons at one time. Remember
the first Gulf War and all of the cases of Gulf War syndrome that the vets came home with? Lets not forget the same Republicans
said that Saddam didn’t use any chemical weapons on us during Gulf War I. the government’s explanation for the
disease was “ sand fleas”. So do we believe the Republicans when they denied chemical weapons existed in the first
Gulf War when they really did? Or do we believe the Republicans when they used the excuse of chemical weapons for launching
the second Gulf War when there were none? Just curious Mr. Hawkins.
I brought the subject of chemical weapons up to set a precedent that Republicans lie like any other politician
lies. Now that we have established a pattern of lying within the Republican Party and Neo Con movement I have another question.
Why should we trust the Republicans when they uphold an assault weapon ban but proclaim they are pro second amendment? And
why did the Republicans scream bloody murder when the Clinton gun ban was imposed but support President Bush for upholding
it? Mr. Hawkins cites that the assault weapons ban will go away in 2004. Are you sure R. A.? Many temporary taxes turn into
permanent tax gets my drift? They can also just extend it in the name of Homeland Security. Another great Neo Conservative
invention.
Mr. Hawkins bragging about the Bush administrations record on gun rights is as pathetic as Al Gore hiring
Tommy Lee Jones for all of those TV and radio adds telling America that Al Gore was a friend of hunters during the 2000 presidential
campaign.
Hawkins stated in his article that “What I see and hear now is a bunch of pelicans trying to control
the GOP to make it bend to their childish little time table”
Wrong again Mr. Hawkins. Sure there are those out there who attempt this behavior, but it’s a waste
of time. There is no need to do it because the Republicans do it on their own! There is a certain political third party out
there that has a brilliant slogan. It is “ Republicans deliver what Democrats promise!” It is such a true statement.
A party or administration that merely passes watered down legislation that allegedly defends the constitution but offers no
solution is no defender of freedom.
Hawkins also mentions, “it is in the second term that things, and I mean really big things, get done.”
This too is a myth. Things do not get done. Not in the first term or the second. Democrats and Republicans both need a problem
to fix to stay successful. If they fix the problem they have nothing to run on. Therefore no real solution and no real action
is taken. If the Republicans were serious about gun rights Mr. Hawkins could not only buy any ammo that he wanted but any
gun that he wanted and he would not have to register it either!
The founding fathers were wise enough to write the second amendment to the Constitution which stated:
“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people
to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
Here is one for you Mr. Hawkins. If government controls the type of fire arms that a citizen can or can’t
buy doesn’t that count as infringing on that citizens rights? The second amendment is part of the Bill of Rights. Not
the Bill of Wants and Needs. But the Bill of Rights!
I think I would define Pelican people as a group of people that puts loyalty to their political party above
their loyalty to the Constitution. I do not determine my loyalty to a candidate by his campaign promises. I determine my loyalty
to a candidate by his or her actions.
To cut people down and call them names because they want government to follow and protect the Constitution
and the freedom that it guarantees shows a true ignorance on Mr. Hawkins part.
