First there was the Stone Age…….It was shredded to pieces by the
Bronze Age…. It was smelted into pots and statues as the Iron Age eclipsed it….Then there was the Industrial Age
causing the iron to be smelted into steel for other purposes….Then came the Nuclear Age which turned all of the other
ages from dust to glass, which the Information Age escaped.... only to return with an attitude!
This
story is about the self-destruction entire populations can bring on themselves out of their own thoughtlessness. History is
filled with examples of such behavior. Entire civilizations can at times latch on to a completely heretical idea and with
zeal cast itself unwittingly onto the scrap heap of history only to be forgotten and the same error repeated later on. Beginning
just after one such Global Event, the story revolves around the remainder of that civilization and the few who escape using
high technology leaving the rest behind for a time. It shows the interplay of the two cultures as those who escaped ultimately
return to save those they left behind from themselves only to be shortsightedly rejected.
People
quite often forget that technology is always many years ahead of where the common man believes it to be. We were excited to
watch man ride a rocket into orbit, and return to Earth in safety. What we didn't realize was that at the same time we had
built the SR71, which was capable of penetrating Soviet airspace and returning unscathed with ease. When the Gulf War began
we again discovered that not only did we have throw-away watches, we had stealth jets that showed a profile no larger than
that of a bird to a radar system. We are always much further ahead than we realize.
Quite
often man is his own worst enemy and his best friend at the same time. This story is about that paradox and what goes through
the minds of both sides of that equation. It also revolves around some who are in a miserable situation and don't want it
to change because they are familiar with it. Along with that there is the underlying message about personal responsibility.
Where does their responsibility end, and more importantly, where does yours begin?!
The story ranges from the stars to the very Earth we all walk and live on.
There are inventions that are quite possible, and perhaps even under development as of this writing. It is also a story of
the love between friends, and two people in love with each other for life. It is also about those who refuse to take an honest
look at themselves and the consequences of that failure. This is a tale about thoughtfulness and thoughtlessness, and what
happens when the two collide.
Science Fiction is responsible for many of the inventions
we now enjoy because it inspired young minds to dream new dreams. It is to young and old that this book is directed. To the
young for developing more critical thinking and imagination, and to the older reader for enjoying the simple fact you are
probably right more often than not.
“Truly the unholy had spread their leathern
wings engulfing the world in a pall of darkness. Razor talons rent from nation to family, all seemed lost. Hope lay buried
under the blood, bone and rubble of once great civilizations for many a year. Caught once again in the frantic cycle and seeking
the light, Hope…. out of desperation…. clawed its way to the vile surface. By crying out to providence for strength
and naming its enemies, ignorance, greed and envy, it pierced the wings of darkness. Once more the unholy were cast down as
the cycle began anew.” - Cycles, Rachael Frasier quoting
Zacharia Thornton
“So seldom in life is the average person aware of the real,
long-term consequences of their actions. When they are aware, they move with respect and caution. They perceive that their
movements are like a pebble on the pond. Every little ripple they create reaches out and touches more than they can ever imagine.
So seldom are they even aware when they are involved in an historic event. It is only after it is over do they realize what
just happened. It is for this reason that man continuously repeats the same stupid mistakes…over and over. The truly
intelligent are continuously beaten back down by their slower brethren. No nation or people can be free if they are ignorant
or unrighteous, as they will eventually succumb to greed, sloth, cowardice, avarice and eventually slavery.” -
General Eugene Deseret
“There comes a point with everyone where they realize they
are destined to servitude, either to themselves or others. The question is what will one serve and what, is its consequence.
In that poignant moment some make the right choice and some make what only seems to be the easy choice. Everyone makes that
choice. We are all sovereign. Some of us don’t recognize this however. The proper and correct way is always a difficult
start. Each step is met with almost overpowering resistance but right makes might and it gets easier as one proceeds. As one
proceeds on that path, one realizes that an act of kindness, honor or decency is actually doing the same to oneself.” -
Reflections from the Dark, John Frasier
“The ultimate selfishness is to do the
unselfish and right thing. In doing so, one does the right thing for themselves and those that will follow.” -
Khrysta Thornton
“Embrace change for what it truly is; an opportunity to evaluate
where you have been as well as where you are going. Look back, but smile. What you leave behind was a wonderful memory or
it is at least lesson to help you grow.” - Zacharia
Thornton
“Those who seek power are usually those who will abuse it. Beware of them.
A good leader will accept real power with a bit of fear and regret. A true leader realizes that even they will not always
be pleased with their own decisions.” - General Eugene
Deseret
“Out of the dust and ashes of past failures, shall the future rise as a
phoenix, all which is forgotten shall unfailingly be repeated, therefore nurture your minds lest a foolish heart ruin the
day.” - Cycles, Rachael Frasier
Those
of you who have bought my book have probably already noticed my references to wolves and various primitive living skills.
Here are some of the pictures of the wolves I have known and truly loved. There is even a rare picture of my wife kissing or receiving a kiss from my couch gutting wolf
'Thor'. May he rest in peace. I also have pictures of Timbre and Autumn. The wolves will be the subject of an upcoming book.
It is a few years away however. The time I spent with them was some of the best in my life. You will also find various examples
of some of the survival techniques I mention in the book on this page. Above all else, learn to differentiate between emotions and logic and allow them to temper
each other. If you are bored out of your mind I suggest trying some of the survival techniques and learning them. The nice
thing about learning primitive living skills is that everything is free. You get to make it from scratch.
